Arrival/Check-In: I traveled to the newly renovated Ritz-Carlton in Montréal with high expectations. Located in the historic Golden Square Mile, the hotel recently reopened after an extensive restoration that refreshed the building while preserving its original character. The historic signage that has hung over the property since 1912 greets guests at the entrance, a reassuring symbol of continuity amid the modern updates. The doorman assisted with our luggage as we arrived with family, and the friendly front desk staff completed a swift check-in. We were escorted to a beautifully appointed suite with an adjoining room — c’est magnifique!
Guest Quarters: Our suite was thoughtfully designed for both relaxation and productivity. To the left of the entrance was a practical workstation with a desk and convenient power outlets. The sleeping area featured a comfortable king-sized bed and a separate dining nook. Everything in the room felt new, from the large flat-screen television to the thoughtfully arranged dressing area and spacious closet. The bathroom stood out: a double sink, a generous soaking tub, and a large walk-in shower. The mosaic tile floor, which incorporates The Ritz-Carlton lion motif, was a refined detail that reinforced the brand’s luxury. The adjoining room opened to create an expansive master suite when desired; the doors were substantial and appeared to be carefully restored originals that respect the building’s history.
Services/Amenities: Dining at Daniel Boulud’s Maison Boulud is a highlight and consistently draws local and visiting diners. The restaurant’s service is attentive and professional, and the cuisine showcases high-quality ingredients prepared with care. Beyond the dining room, the restaurant opens onto a tranquil garden that officially debuted last Father’s Day. At the garden’s center is a pond that hosts Pekin ducklings each spring, a charming seasonal attraction for guests.
Guest rooms include practical office supplies—a compact desk kit with tape, stapler, scissors, and Post-It notes—alongside luxury bath amenities. Bvlgari shampoo, conditioner, and lotion are provided, complemented by a dental kit, shaving kit, cotton swabs, and other essentials that reflect the hotel’s attention to detail.
The concierge team is well connected and helpful. They secured concert tickets for my family to see Lady Antebellum while I attended a business dinner. The theater was within walking distance for them, and Old Montréal is an easy 20-minute stroll from the hotel for those who prefer to explore on foot. Shopping on Sainte-Catherine Street and many of Montréal’s museums and restaurants are conveniently nearby, making the hotel a great base for both leisure and business travelers.
The Experience: The Ritz-Carlton, Montréal blends historic charm with modern luxury. For a memorable stay, visit in spring to enjoy a meal or a drink in the garden while watching the Pekin ducklings — a delightful local touch that adds warmth to the property’s elegant atmosphere.
