To meet strong passenger demand, Delta Air Lines is increasing service between Athens International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport by adding five weekly flights next month. The carrier resumed its seasonal summer route on March 30 with daily operations and is now expanding frequency to accommodate higher traffic during the peak travel season.
Beginning June 2, Delta will operate 12 weekly flights, offering more than 83,000 seats between Greece and the United States during the busiest travel period. Last year, 87,800 passengers used Delta’s non-stop Athens–New York service, reflecting a 16.6 percent increase compared with 2013.
“Customer service is a core priority at Delta, and we are responding to passenger needs by increasing frequencies from Athens this summer,” said Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s senior vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “We have maintained a presence in Greece for 30 years through our ties to Pan Am, and we remain committed to serving this market over the long term.”
Delta operates the Athens route using Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 767-300 aircraft. Business class on these aircraft features fully flat-bed seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, providing direct aisle access for all passengers in the cabin.
