Frontier Announces Major Expansion: New Routes, Jobs, and Hub Growth

Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines announced an expansion of its network, adding 21 new cities and 85 routes. This growth increases the airline’s destinations by roughly 30 percent and nearly doubles its total number of non-stop routes.

By spring 2018, Frontier plans to offer service to destinations that cover 90 percent of the U.S. population, enabling travelers to benefit from significantly lower fares. The airline says those lower fares could translate into more than $1 billion in annual savings for passengers. The Denver (DEN) hub alone will see 21 new routes. Other cities with notable additions include Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Buffalo (BUF), and Long Island (ISP).

“We are proud to announce the nationwide expansion of our unique brand of Low Fares Done Right which will empower millions more people to afford to fly,” said Barry Biffle, chief executive officer of Frontier Airlines. “We project this will save our customers over a billion dollars annually on their flights. These new flights will allow us to serve even more of America and make flying a truly affordable option.”

The expansion introduces 85 new routes, nearly doubling Frontier’s non-stop service and bringing the airline’s overall route network to more than 1,000 options for passengers. In addition to more year-round choices, Frontier will expand winter service in several key southern markets to meet seasonal demand.

This growth coincides with Frontier’s continued fleet modernization, as the carrier takes delivery of Airbus A321 and A320neo aircraft to support the increased schedule and improve fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
