Passengers onboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth can now experience a new holistic spa concept: Canyon Ranch’s Spa at Sea — Mareel Wellness & Beauty, created in collaboration with Canyon Ranch. The name “Mareel” comes from the Old Norse word marueldr, meaning the sea’s phosphorescence, and the design reflects that inspiration. The refreshed décor draws from ocean colors and includes purpose-built spaces such as a couple’s suite designed for seaweed bathing rituals, a meditation room equipped with acoustic resonance loungers, a redesigned multifunctional fitness center with dedicated studio space, an aqua therapy center, and sound therapy features integrated into every treatment room.
The spa’s product and service guidelines emphasize socially responsible production and environmentally conscious sourcing. Treatments use sustainably harvested, biodynamic organic ingredients collected from wild environments and formulated without toxins. Featured brands include Red Flower, Shankara and Environ, alongside VOYA for marine-based therapies. One of the signature offerings, the Ocean Discovery treatment, showcases marine ingredients sustainably gathered in Western Ireland from the VOYA range.
Additional therapies introduced within Mareel Wellness & Beauty include the Taste of Ocean Full Body Experience, an Organic Seaweed Leaf Wrap, the Luminescence Massage and the Age-Defying Restorative Facial. These treatments combine sea-inspired ingredients, mindful techniques and therapeutic modalities to deliver relaxation, rejuvenation and wellness-focused results.
While the new Mareel program debuted on the Queen Elizabeth, Cunard plans to extend the offering fleetwide. The spa experiences will be rolled out on the Queen Victoria and the iconic Queen Mary 2 in November 2020, giving more guests the opportunity to enjoy Canyon Ranch’s sea-inspired approach to wellness at sea.
