Hilton Long Island/Huntington Hotel — Rooms, Amenities & Location

Arrival/Check-In: My colleague Mark and I arrived at the Hilton Long Island after a day of meetings in New York, ready to relax on the first leg of a multiday road trip. Check-in was efficient, and we enjoyed a drink at the lobby bar before heading to our rooms. The newly renovated lobby is expansive, capped by a domed skylight and anchored by a bar and Basil’s Bistro. We sampled a few items from the bar menu—a flatbread and a bruschetta—that were enough to tide us over until dinner.

Guest Quarters: I stayed in room 401, located at the far end of the corridor away from elevator noise. The accommodation was more of a large, oval room with a partial partition than a traditional suite. It felt spacious and well lit, with clear signs of a recent update. A substantial table functioned well as a workstation, and the bathroom offered expected amenities. The room was comfortable for the single night we spent there. In-room WiFi is complimentary for HHonors members and AT&T customers; other guests must pay for access.

Services and Amenities: After settling in and checking email, we returned to the lobby bar for dinner. We had hoped to try Masterson’s, the hotel’s steakhouse, but it was closed on Monday. The bar served dishes from Basil’s Bistro; while the service was attentive and professional, the entrees we ordered—fish and duck—fell short of expectations despite the promising appetizers we had earlier.

The property offers several notable facilities I did not use: a striking indoor pool with a waterfall feature and outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball (the outdoor courts were closed for the season). The hotel also provides a variety of event spaces, from boardrooms to extensive ballroom areas with a separate exterior entrance, making it suitable for conferences and social functions.

The Experience: Following a full renovation in 2012, the hotel presents as clean, welcoming, and well managed. Its location is convenient for meetings around Long Island, though it is too distant to serve as a practical base for regular business travel into Manhattan. Overall, our stay was positive, and I would consider returning when I need an overnight stay in the area.
