Some brands repeatedly earn recognition for consistent excellence. For the eighth straight year, oneworld was voted Best Airline Alliance, thanks to the strength of member airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, LATAM, Qantas, Japan Airlines and Qatar Airways.

InterContinental Hotels Group, with thousands of properties worldwide, retained the top spot for hotel rewards programs: IHG Rewards Club was named Best Hotel Rewards Program for the 13th consecutive year.
Other repeat winners include Volvo (Best Overseas Delivery Program), Hertz (Best Car Rental Company), Boingo Wireless (Best WiFi Service) and Verizon (Best Wireless Service in the World). These brands were recognized for delivering reliable experiences across many traveler needs.

On the consumer electronics front, Sony’s MDR1000X wireless noise-cancelling headphones were voted Best Noise-Cancelling Headset for the fourth year running. Nikon earned Best Photographic Equipment with the D7500, and Briggs & Riley was again recognized as Best Luggage Brand.

The survey also introduced several new categories. Uber topped Best Ride Share; Hilton Hotels & Resorts won Best Hotel App; and Delta Air Lines claimed Best Airline App—showing how digital tools increasingly shape the traveler experience.
Starting our regional review in North America, American Airlines received multiple honors: Best Airline Website, Fastest-Growing Airline Trans-Pacific and Best Airline for Domestic First Class (for the second straight year).
The Ritz-Carlton stood out among hotel brands, earning Best International Hotel Chain and Best Domestic Hotel Chain (each for the third consecutive year), Best Hotel Club Floor (second year) and Best Hotel Website (third straight year).

Delta Air Lines was singled out for Best Airline for New Service Launch for its Detroit-to-London route, while Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport won Best Airport Dining for the fourth year in a row.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport was named Best Airport in North America for the 14th consecutive year. United Airlines’ MileagePlus program retained its top position as Best Overall Frequent-Flyer Program for the 14th time and also won Best Frequent-Flyer Bonus Program.

Hyatt earned multiple honors, including Best Lifestyle Hotel for its Andaz brand and several accolades for its World of Hyatt loyalty program. Marriott Rewards also received recognition as Best Frequent-Stay Bonus Program.
Alaska Airlines was voted Best Airline in North America, with its Mileage Plan program recognized for Best Frequent-Flyer Customer Service in the Americas. Hawaiian Airlines won Best Frequent-Flyer Elite-Level Program for its Pualani Platinum membership. The Peninsula Beverly Hills was again named Best Hotel in the United States.
In Mexico, Aeromexico was named Best Airline and Fiesta Americana again topped Best Hotel Chain in Mexico. The country was also voted Best Tourism Destination by readers.
Across the Atlantic, Airbus’ A350 won Best Aircraft Type. Turkish Airlines was recognized for Business Class and airport staff service. Alitalia and TAP Air Portugal led categories for airline cuisine and Best Airline in Europe, respectively, while LOT Polish Airlines held the top spot for Eastern Europe.

In the Middle East, Qatar Airways dominated first-class categories and was voted Best Airline in the Middle East. Hamad International Airport claimed Best Airport in the Middle East. Etihad won Best Flight Attendant Uniforms, Dubai Duty Free added more duty-free accolades, and Burj Al Arab Jumeirah was voted Best Hotel in the Middle East.
Asia honored Singapore Airlines as Best Overall Airline in the World for the third consecutive year, with Singapore Changi Airport again voted Best Overall Airport in the World. Asiana Airlines continued to lead onboard service and flight-attendant categories, while Incheon Airport was recognized as Best Airport in Asia. Mandarin Oriental, Taipei was named Best Hotel in Asia.

In the Pacific region, Air New Zealand was named Best Airline to Australia and New Zealand, while Fiji Airways topped the South Pacific category. Africa’s long-time favorite, South African Airways, was voted Best Airline in Africa, and Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport earned top honors for the continent.
In South America, LifeMiles from Avianca was recognized for Best Frequent-Flyer Award Redemption, and LATAM Airlines Group was voted Best Airline to South America. Jorge Chávez International Airport in Peru appeared on the winners’ list as Best Airport in South America.
Credit cards that pair with airline and hotel programs also received high marks. The United MileagePlus Club Card from Chase was voted Best Overall Credit Card and Best Credit Card Rewards Program. Chase, American Express and other issuers appear throughout winners lists for frequent-flyer and frequent-stay affinity cards, promotions and benefits.

THE VOTING PROCESS
Open-ended ballots ran in subscriber copies of Global Traveler and online from Jan. 1 to Aug. 31, 2017. Ballots were also distributed via direct mail and email. Ballots with fewer than 50 percent of fields completed were disqualified. More than 22,000 qualified ballots were returned during the voting period. Employees of FX Express Publications, Inc. and affiliated members of the travel industry were not allowed to participate.
