Melia’s Expansion in Italy: New Hotels, Locations & Dates

Melia Hotels International will open its seventh property in Italy, Melia Campione, in Campione d’Italia-Lugano before the end of the year. Situated in the province of Como in Lombardy on the shores of Lake Lugano, the hotel adjoins the renowned Campione Casino and offers 40 exclusive guest rooms.

The new hotel features an all-day dining concept with contemporary, relaxed culinary offerings and a spa designed for rest and wellbeing. Its location—on the border between Italy and Switzerland—positions the property as an appealing option for both leisure and luxury travelers seeking scenic lakefront stays with easy access to regional attractions.

“This beautiful Italian province, halfway between Italy and Switzerland and blessed by Lake Lugano, is an area of great potential for the luxury hotel and travel industry and puts us in a strong position in the Italian market, which is strategically important for our company,” said Gabriel Escarrer, vice chairman and CEO of Melia Hotels International, commenting on the opening.

Melia Campione expands the brand’s presence in Italy, strengthening its footprint in a key market for upscale hospitality. The combination of a prime lakeside setting, proximity to one of Europe’s largest casinos, and thoughtfully designed amenities aims to attract guests looking for sophisticated leisure experiences in Lombardy.

With this opening, Melia continues to grow its Italian portfolio, offering visitors modern accommodations, dining options that emphasize relaxed, contemporary cuisine, and wellness facilities that complement the destination’s natural beauty. The property is expected to appeal to both international and regional travelers seeking a refined, convenient base for exploring Lake Lugano and nearby attractions.
