Viking Announces New 2016 Cruise Itineraries and Routes

Viking Ocean Cruises is introducing several new itineraries in the Caribbean and North America for the second half of 2016. Inspired by historic trade and exploration routes, these sailings highlight destinations tied to ancient Norse journeys and coastal culture across the Atlantic.

“We launched our ocean cruises in Europe earlier this year and just as the Viking explorers before us, we are now looking across the Atlantic for new discoveries,” said Torstein Hagen, founder and chairman of Viking Cruises. “Our new itineraries in North America and the Caribbean will offer travelers experiences that broaden their horizons both on and off the ship.”

The first and most notable addition, debuting Sept. 18, is the In the Wake of the Vikings itinerary. Departing from Norway, this voyage traces historic Viking routes through the Scottish isles, Iceland and Greenland, then continues to Newfoundland and Quebec before concluding in Montreal. The route emphasizes cultural connections and landscapes shaped by centuries of northern seafaring.

Another option, the Eastern Seaboard Explorer, is a 13-day voyage that runs from Montreal to New York beginning in October. This itinerary calls on Quebec City, Saguenay, Prince Edward Island, Halifax and Boston, and is timed once a year to showcase New England’s striking fall foliage. It’s designed for travelers who want a blend of maritime history, regional culture and scenic coastal scenery.

Also available in October 2016 is the Eastern Seaboard to the West Indies itinerary. This 15-day crossing starts in New York and finishes in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with port calls that include Baltimore, Port Everglades, Turks and Caicos, Antigua and St. Thomas, plus time in New York City. The route combines historic urban stops with tropical islands, offering varied landscapes and cultural experiences along the way.

These new sailings expand Viking’s ocean offerings beyond Europe, reflecting the company’s focus on destination-driven cruises that emphasize history, culture and regional enrichment. Each itinerary is structured to provide onshore exploration alongside the comfort and amenities of Viking’s ships.
