Top U.S. Credit Card Rewards Programs Revealed by U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report reviewed 28 travel rewards programs and published a ranking of the most valuable options for travelers. Topping the hotel category, Wyndham Rewards earned first place, offering free nights at more than 7,800 properties worldwide. Over the past year, Wyndham has expanded benefits to include early check-in, complimentary amenities and room upgrades, improving the overall member experience.

Sharing second place are Choice Privileges and Marriott Rewards, both recognized for broad property networks and straightforward ways to earn and redeem points. Best Western Rewards ranks fourth, followed by La Quinta Returns in fifth place, each praised for consistent value and accessible redemption options.

In the airline category, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan was named the best airline rewards program. Reviewers highlighted its mileage-based earning structure, which awards points according to miles flown rather than the ticket price—an approach that favors frequent flyers on longer routes. JetBlue TrueBlue earned the runner-up spot. Rounding out the top five are Southwest Rapid Rewards, Delta SkyMiles and Virgin America Elevate, noted for perks such as free checked bags, flexible redemption options and wide availability of award seats.

“The best travel rewards programs make it easier for travelers to understand and select the right program for them,” said Erin Shields, travel editor at U.S. News & World Report. “Top-ranked programs offer the perks travelers value most—room upgrades, free checked bags and simple, reliable ways to accumulate miles and points.”
