Switzerland is especially beautiful under a blanket of snow. If your winter itinerary brings you there, consider these notable events taking place this season:

From December 22 to March 2, 2019, Les Diablerets hosts the 50th Annual Music & Snow Festival, featuring eight concerts and a diverse program that includes trios, quartets, piano and cello recitals. The festival offers a mix of classical repertoire performed in intimate alpine settings, appealing to music lovers seeking a seasonal cultural experience.

Highlights on this year’s program include the Quintette à Cordes Bartholdy presenting works by Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner, and the Quatuor Modigliani performing compositions by Joseph Haydn and Claude Debussy. These ensembles bring refined chamber music to mountain venues, combining high-quality performances with the region’s winter charm.

On February 23 in Château-d’Oex, the Rallye du Goût is a 3-kilometre moonlit walk that celebrates local food producers. The trek follows the snowy banks of the Sarine and is lit by lanterns and moonlight. Along the route, participants can visit ten food stands to sample and purchase regional products such as honey, organic herbal teas, a variety of cheeses, syrups and cured meats, and speak directly with the producers who craft them.

At the end of the circuit, walkers are invited to enjoy soupe de chalet, a local soup specialty, and an assortment of handmade desserts. Snowshoes are provided free of charge, and reservations are required, ensuring a well-organized, convivial evening that highlights the flavors and traditions of the region.
