Asian boutique hotelier Alila Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to open its first luxury resort in Oman’s mountainous Jabal Akhdar region in early 2014. Perched on the edge of a dramatic gorge with sweeping views of the Hajar Mountains, Alila Jabal Akhdar will be about a two-hour drive from Muscat and designed to complement the area’s natural and cultural character.
The resort’s accommodation will include 78 suites, six loft suites and two private villas, offering varied options for couples, families and discerning travelers. Facilities are planned to take advantage of the site’s cliff-top setting and temperate climate, and will include a cliff-side restaurant, outdoor and indoor pools, a full-service spa, a fitness center and flexible meeting and event spaces to serve both leisure and business guests.
Mark Edleson, president of Alila Hotels & Resorts, said the Jabal Akhdar region aligns with the brand’s development philosophy: “Its combination of diverse ecosystems, striking natural beauty and rich cultural history fits perfectly with our approach. Long a destination for visitors from the Gulf drawn to its cool, Mediterranean-like climate and scenic landscapes, Jabal Akhdar is now being developed carefully to meet international tourism standards while protecting its character.”
The new resort aims to showcase sustainable, sensitive development that complements local infrastructure improvements and regional tourism growth. Alila has indicated plans to continue expanding its portfolio with additional properties across Indonesia, China and Europe, bringing the brand’s signature focus on design-driven hospitality and environmental stewardship to new destinations.
