A new hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon invites visitors to immerse themselves in the town where William Shakespeare was born. Hotel Indigo – Stratford upon Avon is the brand’s first property in this historic market town, which draws theatre lovers and literary tourists from across the globe.
The boutique property has fewer than 100 guest rooms, each thoughtfully designed to reflect the character and history of the local area. Traditional English materials and antique accents sit alongside contemporary fixtures, creating a warm, playful atmosphere that balances period charm with modern comfort.
Guests can choose from three distinct room styles. Tudor Rooms draw on the 16th-century aesthetic associated with Shakespeare’s later years and the period architecture nearby. Georgian Townhouse rooms take their cues from the elegance of the era that shaped many of Stratford’s grand homes and theatrical traditions. Contemporary Rooms offer a more modern interpretation, celebrating the town’s more recent history and present-day life. The hotel building itself dates back to the 1500s and previously served as a public house, lending authentic historic detail to the façade and common areas.
On-site amenities are curated for convenience and relaxation. Every room includes a Nespresso machine, and guests can enjoy the hotel’s private walled herb gardens and a dedicated outdoor barbecue area—ideal for relaxed gatherings in fair weather. The property also features an on-site restaurant that features menus inspired by local flavors and seasonal produce.
“We are excited to have officially opened the doors to Hotel Indigo – Stratford upon Avon. The hotel is a prime example of how Hotel Indigo brings the outside in; drawing on the local neighborhood to inspire every aspect of each hotel, from intriguing design to locally inspired menus. From the restaurant onsite to the exclusive private garden, the hotel is a great place for locals to gather with friends and family. We look forward to welcoming many guests to enjoy Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeare’s home town,” said Carl Davies-Phillips, general manager of Hotel Indigo – Stratford upon Avon.
Positioned to appeal both to visitors exploring Shakespearean sites and to locals seeking a welcoming venue, the hotel combines heritage architecture with contemporary hospitality. Its modest size ensures a personalized stay, while the design-led rooms and landscaped outdoor spaces offer distinct ways to experience Stratford’s layered history and community spirit.
