Santa Fe’s landmark Eldorado Hotel & Spa is undergoing a major renovation that will modernize its public spaces and guestrooms while preserving the hotel’s historic character. Scheduled for completion this spring, the project introduces a wedding chapel, a new 7,000-square-foot ballroom and an updated lobby bar, along with redesigned rooms and new artwork throughout the hotel’s 219 guestrooms and suites.
Heritage Hotels & Resorts, which acquired the Eldorado Hotel in May 2014, added the property as the eighth hotel in its New Mexico portfolio and its fourth hotel in Santa Fe. The renovation reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences while honoring local tradition and architectural heritage.
“For 25 years, the Eldorado Hotel & Spa has welcomed travelers from around the world to experience the unique character and deep historical roots of Santa Fe,” said Jim Long, CEO of Heritage Hotels & Resorts. “Our goal with these upgrades is to pay further homage to the hotel’s namesake, El Dorado — the City of Gold — by blending modern comforts with the regional spirit that makes this destination special.”
The redesign focuses on thoughtful enhancements that support both leisure and event business. The new ballroom will provide flexible, high-end event space for weddings, conferences and social gatherings, while the dedicated wedding chapel offers couples an intimate venue within the hotel. The refreshed lobby bar aims to become a lively gathering spot for guests and locals alike, featuring updated finishes and a layout that encourages socializing and relaxation.
Guestroom updates emphasize comfort and local character. New furnishings, textiles and curated artwork will be introduced across the property’s 219 guestrooms and suites to create a cohesive, welcoming aesthetic that complements Santa Fe’s cultural identity. The renovation team prioritized design choices that feel authentic to the region, drawing on colors, materials and patterns that resonate with the area’s heritage without resorting to clichéd motifs.
In addition to aesthetic upgrades, the project includes practical improvements to enhance guest comfort and convenience. Upgraded lighting, refreshed bathrooms and modernized in-room amenities will align the property with current traveler expectations while maintaining the hotel’s historic charm.
Heritage Hotels & Resorts says the improvements are intended to enrich the guest experience and to support the hotel’s role as a prominent local destination. By combining event-driven spaces with elevated hospitality offerings, the Eldorado Hotel & Spa aims to attract a wider range of visitors—from couples seeking a distinctive wedding venue to business travelers and vacationers looking for an authentic Santa Fe stay.
When completed this spring, the renovated Eldorado will offer updated public spaces, fresh guestrooms and new event facilities, all designed to celebrate the hotel’s legacy and the cultural landscape of Santa Fe. The enhancements aim to strengthen the property’s appeal while preserving the warmth and character that have long defined the Eldorado Hotel & Spa.
