Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) reached a significant milestone today with the opening of its new Sky Train service.
Passengers at Terminal 4 can access the complimentary Sky Train from Level 3, where gates and security checkpoints are located. The ride takes approximately two minutes to the airport’s largest economy parking area and about five minutes to reach the Metro 44th Street Station. Trains run every three to five minutes and operate 24 hours a day, providing frequent, reliable connections for travelers.
Construction on the remaining Sky Train routes is still underway. Airport officials expect service to be extended to all three terminals by early 2015. Once fully complete, the Sky Train will also continue to the Rental Car Center, creating a seamless, efficient link between terminals, parking, public transit and ground transportation services.
The new system aims to reduce vehicle traffic around the terminals, shorten transfer times for passengers, and improve overall airport circulation. With frequent service and 24-hour operation, the Sky Train offers a dependable option for both arriving and departing passengers, whether they are heading to long-term parking, the rental car facility, or connecting to the city’s transit system.
Terminal access on Level 3 was designed to align with existing gate and security locations to make transfers intuitive and quick. By providing rapid connections between the terminal, economy parking and the Metro station, the Sky Train enhances passenger convenience and supports the airport’s efforts to streamline travel through Phoenix Sky Harbor.
