New River Cruise Line Launches Service in 2014

Emerald Waterways, the first new European river cruise line to launch in over six years, will begin sailings next spring with a collection of itineraries ranging from eight to 15 days.

The new, purpose-built ships combine contemporary amenities—such as a heated swimming pool and onboard movie theater—with strong value, appealing to both seasoned river cruisers and younger travelers. Fares start at $2,230 per person, based on double occupancy.

Each vessel, Emerald Star and Emerald Sky, carries 182 guests across 20 staterooms and 72 suites. The ships feature an innovative cabin concept that replaces the traditional French balcony with an indoor balcony area. This design includes a deck space and a push-button system that lowers the upper half of the floor-to-ceiling window for fresh air and unobstructed views.

Rates cover transfers to and from the ship, all onboard meals (and most shore-side meals), a choice of two dining venues, onboard WiFi, and at least one included shore excursion on most cruise days. Many itineraries include visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites. Guests also receive complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner.

Featured itineraries include Danube Delights, Classic Prague & Danube Delights, Magical Rhine & Moselle, and Splendors of Europe—each designed to showcase the culture, history and scenery of the region.
