Meliá Hotels Expands Caribbean Portfolio: New Resorts & Updates

Meliá Hotels International is expanding its footprint in the Caribbean with new properties in Jamaica and the Bahamas. The company has signed an agreement to operate the flagship resort currently known as Braco Village Hotel & Spa on Jamaica’s north coast. The resort features 226 guestrooms, five restaurants, a full-service spa and multiple swimming pools. It will undergo an extensive renovation and reopen as Meliá Jamaica in November 2014.

In addition, Meliá will manage an all-inclusive resort at Baha Mar, the new $3.5 billion resort complex in the Bahamas scheduled to open in December 2014. Meliá at Baha Mar will be positioned as the development’s upscale all-inclusive option. Baha Mar will also include four other hotels, more than half a mile of white-sand beaches, a Jack Nicklaus Signature championship golf course, a 100,000-square-foot casino and over 30 retail, dining and entertainment venues.

As Spain’s leading hotel chain, Meliá Hotels International operates more than 350 hotels across 35 countries on four continents under several brands, including Gran Meliá, Meliá, ME, INNSiDE, TRYP by Wyndham, Sol and Paradisus. These Caribbean additions reinforce the company’s strategy to grow in key resort destinations and offer a mix of luxury and all-inclusive options for international travelers.
