Marriott’s luxury-lifestyle EDITION brand is expanding its portfolio with a new hotel in Iceland, set to open in 2018. The 250-room property will occupy a prime waterfront location on the harbor in downtown Reykjavík and will sit immediately adjacent to Harpa, the city’s acclaimed concert and conference hall.
“Iceland is emerging as one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world for global travelers and we couldn’t be more excited to introduce our EDITION brand to this vibrant country,” said Sandeep Walia, area vice president, Marriott International, Inc., in Europe.
EDITION is known for its contemporary design, innovative approach to hospitality and personalised, modern service. Existing properties in New York, London and Miami showcase the brand’s blend of distinctive interiors, tailored service and curated food, beverage and entertainment offerings. The Reykjavík hotel will bring that same sensibility to Iceland, appealing to both international visitors and local residents seeking elevated dining and social experiences.
The brand’s expansion plan also includes openings in several global cities over the coming years. Properties were scheduled for Abu Dhabi, Sanya in China and Bangkok in 2016, with additional launches planned for Times Square and West Hollywood in 2018. Further growth was anticipated in Wuhan, China and Bali, Indonesia in 2019. These openings reflect EDITION’s strategy to grow in major urban and resort destinations, combining local culture with the brand’s signature luxury-lifestyle hospitality.
By situating the Reykjavík EDITION on the harbor next to Harpa, Marriott aims to create a hotel that integrates with the city’s cultural heart. The location offers easy access to Reykjavík’s waterfront attractions, dining scene and arts venues, making it an attractive base for travelers exploring Iceland’s capital and the island’s dramatic natural landscapes.
With its focus on design-led interiors, bespoke guest services and distinctive food-and-beverage concepts, the new EDITION in Reykjavík is positioned to contribute to the city’s evolving hotel scene while providing international travelers with a refined, locally engaged option for luxury accommodation.
