Marriott International announced plans to open a luxury resort on Sacca Sessola, a private island in the Venetian Lagoon, in 2014. The new JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa will feature 266 guestrooms, a rooftop pool, and a comprehensive health club. Accessible by a 15-minute boat transfer from Venice, the property will mark the JW Marriott brand’s first hotel in Italy. At the time of the announcement, JW Marriott operated five hotels across Europe, including locations in London; Bucharest, Romania; Cannes, France; Ankara, Turkey; and Baku, Azerbaijan.
