Hawaiian Airlines Expands Flights: New Routes and Increased Service

Hawaiian Airlines will expand capacity on flights between Honolulu (HNL) and two West Coast cities—Oakland (OAK), Calif., and Portland (PDX), Ore.—beginning this spring. Starting May 10, the carrier will upgrade its Portland service to the larger Airbus A330-200, boosting seating from 264 on the current Boeing 767-300 to 294 seats. This equipment change adds roughly 11,000 seats annually and increases cargo capacity by about 25 percent.

In addition, Hawaiian will increase its seasonal Honolulu–Oakland schedule from four weekly flights to daily service for the period of June 15 through October 3. That seasonal frequency increase will provide approximately 12,000 additional seats over the 16-week window. The Oakland route will continue to be operated with Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

Separately, Hawaiian Airlines was recognized last week for outstanding punctuality. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report for December, Hawaiian earned the industry’s No. 1 ranking for on-time performance in 2012 for the ninth consecutive year. The airline posted a 93.4 percent on-time rate for the year, led the industry in 11 of 12 months, and achieved a 93.3 percent on-time rate for December.
