Air Berlin Adds Three New A330s to Its Fleet

Germany’s second-largest airline, airberlin, has added three wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft to its fleet as it prepares for an expanded long-haul summer schedule to the United States.

These new A330-200s join airberlin’s existing wide-body fleet and increase overall capacity by nearly 1,000 passenger seats, strengthening the carrier’s transatlantic offering.

The first aircraft arrived in February, with two more delivered this month. Each aircraft is configured with 19 fully flat seats in business class and 271 economy seats. Additionally, every plane features 46 extra-large economy seats that provide roughly 20 percent more seat pitch for greater legroom and passenger comfort.

For the summer season, airberlin will operate 84 non-stop flights per week between Germany and the United States airberlinfrom eight U.S. gateways. The schedule expands the carrier’s U.S. network by adding Orlando (MCO) to an existing roster that includes New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), Fort Myers (RSW), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

In addition to U.S. routes, airberlin continues to serve a variety of long-haul leisure destinations with non-stop flights from Berlin (TXL) and Dusseldorf (DUS). These include Cancun (CUN), Mexico; Varadero (VRA) and Havana (HAV), Cuba; Punta Cana (PUJ) and Puerto Plata (POP), Dominican Republic; and the Caribbean island of Curaçao (CUR).

By adding the three A330-200s and increasing weekly frequencies, airberlin aims to meet rising summer demand for transatlantic travel while offering improved onboard comfort—particularly for economy travelers who will benefit from the larger-pitch seats. The expansion also enhances connectivity for vacationers and business travelers between Germany and popular destinations across the Americas.
