Green Ink 48: Sleek Eco-Friendly Printer Cartridge Guide

Ink48, a Kimpton Hotel, marked Earth Day with an eco-friendly twist on its daily wine hour. On April 22 guests enjoyed wine accompanied by a fresh granola and trail mix bar, where they could custom-blend snacks from a selection of healthy ingredients. To reduce electricity use, the hotel dimmed overhead lights and arranged votive candles throughout the Map Room to create a warm, sustainable atmosphere.

Ink48 has implemented a range of green initiatives designed to reduce energy consumption, minimize waste, and streamline operations without compromising guest comfort:

  • Smart Lighting and Climate Control: Each room features a sensor near the door that tracks entry and exit. If a room remains empty for 10 minutes after a guest leaves, the lights automatically switch off and the HVAC system adjusts to an energy-saving preset of 72°F. A motion sensor inside the room prevents the system from shutting down while a guest is present, ensuring comfort when rooms are occupied.
  • Paper Reduction and Efficient Housekeeping: To cut down on paper and unnecessary cleanings, Ink48 replaced door hanger cards with a dual-button system outside each room. Guests can press a button to indicate privacy (red) or request housekeeping (green). The status is relayed directly to housekeeping staff, allowing them to prioritize rooms and avoid redundant visits.
  • Centralized HVAC Management: The hotel’s HVAC units are monitored and controlled from a central computer in the engineering office. This centralized system allows engineers to check performance, make remote temperature adjustments, and ensure units are not operating needlessly in vacant rooms, improving efficiency across the property.

These practical measures combine simple automation with thoughtful service design to lower energy use, reduce waste, and maintain guest comfort. They show how small changes—like automated lighting, smart housekeeping signals, and centralized HVAC monitoring—can add up to meaningful environmental benefits in a boutique hotel setting.
