As part of an ongoing renovation program, the renowned 5-star Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, is undertaking a multimillion-dollar refurbishment of its guestrooms. Set within an 850-acre countryside estate about an hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh, the luxury property is known for outdoor pursuits, award-winning golf, Michelin-standard dining and a well-regarded spa.
Scottish design firm Greyline, which redesigned 36 of the hotel’s guestrooms last year, will refresh a further 36 of the property’s 232 rooms during the first quarter of 2015. The upgrade will introduce bespoke Wilton Carpets, a selection of premium soft furnishings and wallcoverings from brands such as Osborne & Little and Harlequin, and Heathfield designer lighting. Each of the 36 rooms will also receive new air-conditioning systems to improve comfort year-round.
“The main palette for the new bedroom schemes draws once again from the beautiful countryside that surrounds Gleneagles,” said Gavin Liddle of Greyline. “The indigenous colors of heather and silvery lichen greens reinforce the hotel’s connection to its setting, complemented by contemporary tones such as silver, zinc, ivory and taupe. The bedrooms aim for a relaxed, classic-contemporary feel, combining luxurious velvets and textures with rich burr woods and considered lighting. Together these elements evoke the elegance and glamour of the hotel’s 1920s heritage.”
In addition to the room refurbishments, the hotel planned to open a new 26,910-square-foot conference and tennis facility, The Gleneagles Arena, in spring. The new venue is intended to broaden the resort’s event and sports offerings while maintaining the property’s commitment to high-quality design and guest experience.
