Flight Cleared: What Cleared for Departure Means for Travelers

Travelers in the Northeast should take note: if you’re planning a Bermuda getaway this spring and flying out of New York, make sure you’re departing from the correct airport.

Beginning May 1, Delta Air Lines will move its New York–to–Bermuda flights from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Under the new schedule, departures from JFK will be at 5:00 p.m. EST, while return flights from Bermuda (BDA) will leave at 9:15 a.m. AST.

The shift to JFK is intended to better serve international travelers. JFK offers more efficient connections for passengers arriving from Europe and Asia who are continuing on to Bermuda, simplifying transfers and reducing transit time for those coming from overseas.

This schedule change may also affect ground transportation and parking plans for travelers accustomed to using LaGuardia, so consider updating any airport transfers, ride-share reservations, or parking arrangements accordingly. Allow extra time for travel to JFK, which is farther from some Manhattan neighborhoods than LGA and has different traffic patterns.

For travelers planning activities or accommodations in Bermuda, coordinating arrival and departure times with hotel check-in and check-out policies can help avoid gaps in your itinerary. If you have tight connections through JFK, check with Delta for potential timing adjustments or rebooking options.

For frequent flyers and those with international itineraries, the move could mean improved baggage transfer handling and access to a broader range of lounges and international services at JFK. If you rely on specific airport services—such as club lounges, currency exchange, or international customs assistance—verify their availability at JFK before departure.

Travelers who booked through travel agents or third-party booking sites should confirm their flight details and terminals ahead of time to ensure they depart from JFK on the new schedule. It’s also wise to review any updated airline communications, boarding times, and airport advisories as your trip approaches.

If you’re planning a visit to Bermuda this spring, this change should make international connections smoother and offer more options for seamless travel between continents and the island. Adjust your travel plans now to avoid surprises at the airport and enjoy a more streamlined journey.
