The Head Of The Charles Regatta, the world’s largest rowing competition, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. More than 10,000 athletes from around the globe are expected to compete in the event (Oct. 18–19), while over 400,000 spectators typically line the banks of Boston’s Charles River to watch the races.
Each year fans gather along the river for the two-day regatta, which features 61 competitive races across a wide range of boat classes and age groups. For the milestone 50th edition, organizers will host a special gala celebration at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School on the evening of Oct. 18. The weekend also includes family-friendly activities, a rowing and fitness expo, and a variety of food vendors to serve spectators and participants.
The Head Of The Charles Regatta is free and open to the public. Races begin at Boston University’s DeWolfe Boathouse (619 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, Mass.) and finish at Artesani Park (1255 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, Mass.).
