Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport marks the 10th anniversary of International Terminal D, the Grand Hyatt DFW and the Skylink people mover. Since their 2005 opening, these three projects have helped transform DFW into a preferred connecting hub for travelers and strengthened the airport’s global reputation for service and amenities.
“When Terminal D, the Grand Hyatt and Skylink opened a decade ago, DFW Airport had a vision to become a world-renowned super-hub,” said Sean Donohue, CEO, DFW Airport. “While we are pleased with the progress made to expand international service and offer new terminal amenities and conveniences not experienced anywhere else, we’re not resting there. We pledge to continue working to elevate the customer experience and seek future opportunities to serve all of our airport customers and the Dallas/Fort Worth community.”
Looking forward, DFW plans several enhancements to improve the passenger experience. The terminal’s concessions program will receive its first major update since opening, introducing new premium retail, spa and dining options. A centerpiece of these improvements will be a new duty-free shopping program featuring a two-level, 13,000-square-foot flagship store that will redefine the central retail area of the terminal.
The expanded duty-free offering is expected to bring an array of well-known global brands, elevating the shopping experience for international travelers. Planned brand categories include high-end fashion, cosmetics and accessories, with names such as Ferragamo, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Lancôme and Burberry identified among the planned tenants. These additions aim to make Terminal D more competitive with leading international airports and to provide greater convenience and choice for passengers passing through DFW.
Beyond retail, the broader improvements will focus on creating a more comfortable and efficient environment throughout the terminal. The updated concessions strategy emphasizes a mix of dining options, from quick-service choices for travelers on tight connections to full-service restaurants for those with more time. Spa and wellness services will also be introduced to offer travelers relaxation and refreshment between flights.
Since its debut, Skylink has been a critical component of DFW’s efficiency, quickly moving passengers between terminals and reducing connection times. The Grand Hyatt DFW, located inside Terminal D, provides convenient on-site lodging for travelers with tight schedules or early departures, reinforcing the airport’s role as a true travel hub. Together, these elements have supported increased international service and helped attract new carriers and destinations.
Airport leadership says the upcoming updates reflect an ongoing commitment to enhance both the functional and experiential aspects of travel at DFW. By combining improved retail and dining with improved passenger services, the airport aims to serve a growing number of international and domestic travelers while continuing to support the Dallas/Fort Worth region’s economic vitality.
As DFW celebrates this milestone, officials emphasize that these improvements are part of a longer-term strategy to remain a top global connecting airport. Continued investment in amenities, customer experience and international connectivity will guide future developments as the airport adapts to evolving traveler needs.
