Delta Launches New Nonstop Service from JFK to Lagos

Delta Air Lines is set to begin nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) starting next year. The new route will operate three times weekly, with service commencing on March 24, 2018.

Flights will depart JFK on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 10:50 p.m., arriving in Lagos the following day at approximately 2:05 p.m. The return service from Lagos is scheduled to depart at 10:30 p.m., arriving back in New York at about 5:30 a.m. the next morning. These schedules are designed to offer convenient overnight travel in both directions for business and leisure passengers.

Equipment for the route will be an Airbus A330-200, configured to accommodate 234 passengers across three cabins: 34 Delta One business class seats, 32 Delta Comfort+ seats and 168 main cabin seats. This configuration provides a mix of premium and economy options to serve a variety of traveler needs, from those seeking lie-flat seats and increased privacy to travelers prioritizing value and comfort in the main cabin.

“JFK is one of Delta’s gateways to the world, and we’re proud to make that world a little smaller with the launch of service to Lagos,” said Henry Kuykendall, vice president, New York, Delta. He noted that this new link to Nigeria expands Delta’s presence on the African continent and complements existing transatlantic and African routes from JFK.

The Lagos service adds to Delta’s growing network from New York, joining current nonstop flights from JFK to Dakar and Accra, as well as recently launched transatlantic routes to Lisbon, Berlin and Glasgow. These route additions reflect Delta’s strategy to refine and grow its global network to better serve the more than 27 million customers who travel through New York each year.

Delta already serves Lagos from its Atlanta (ATL) hub with four weekly flights and maintains service to several African destinations including Accra (ACC), Dakar (DKR) and Johannesburg (JNB). The new JFK–Lagos nonstop offers additional frequency and a direct option for passengers traveling between the New York metropolitan area and Nigeria, improving connectivity for both business and leisure markets.

Passengers planning to travel on the route can expect Delta’s typical onboard services and amenities appropriate to each cabin, including dedicated service in Delta One, extra legroom and dedicated overhead space in Delta Comfort+, and a full range of main cabin options. As with other long-haul flights, schedules and equipment may be subject to change, so travelers should confirm details when booking.

Overall, the introduction of nonstop service between JFK and Lagos strengthens Delta’s transatlantic and African network and provides an additional travel option for customers connecting between North America and West Africa. The thrice-weekly schedule is intended to balance demand while offering consistent, reliable service between these two major cities.
