Delta Air Lines will resume nonstop daily service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Mexico City (MEX) beginning Dec. 1, pending government approval. This route will link Delta’s Los Angeles hub with Aeromexico’s Mexico City hub, complementing Aeromexico’s existing schedule and strengthening the carriers’ combined presence on the busy transborder corridor.
Delta’s return to the LAX–Mexico City market marks its first service on this route since 2005 and reinforces the airlines’ leading position. Earlier this year the two carriers announced several new nonstop markets as part of their joint cooperation agreement, expanding travel options for customers and increasing connectivity across North America.
“Los Angeles is the top U.S. market to Mexico, and together Delta and Aeromexico provide the most robust schedule between LAX and Mexico City with seven daily flights,” said Ranjan Goswami, vice president, sales, west region, Delta. “Our combined network offers travelers more choices and access to 20 onward destinations beyond L.A. The recent move to Terminals 2 and 3 at LAX also makes it simpler for customers to connect to those destinations.”
The new Delta flight will operate on an Airbus A319 featuring refreshed cabin amenities, including adjustable headrests, seatback in-flight entertainment screens, in-seat power outlets, high-capacity overhead bins, ambient lighting and updated lavatories. The aircraft offers 132 seats in total: 12 in first class, 18 in Delta Comfort+, and 102 in the main cabin.
Aeromexico currently operates six daily round trips between LAX and Mexico City using Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, providing frequent service in one of the largest U.S.–Mexico markets. Together, the carriers carried more than 7 million customers to and from Mexico in 2016, underscoring the strong demand on this route.
Members of Delta SkyMiles and Aeromexico Club Premier benefit from reciprocal mileage accrual and redemption across both carriers’ flights. In addition, Delta’s Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members receive priority benefits such as complimentary upgrades, access to participating lounges where available, preferred seating, baggage fee waivers, and priority check-in and boarding, enhancing the travel experience for frequent flyers.
