Corduroy Boutique Hotel Opens in Montauk, NY — Luxury Coastal Stay

Just in time for Montauk’s summer season, Hotel Corduroy has opened its doors as the first New York property from Blue Flag Capital. The 29-room boutique hotel, housed in the former Sunset Montauk (originally built in 1983), honors the area’s surf heritage and maritime spirit while presenting a refreshed, welcoming atmosphere. Ward + Gray led the interior design to create warm, thoughtfully layered rooms, and Workshop/APD preserved and elevated the architectural character of the three original buildings.

“We’ve always felt Montauk stands apart from the rest of the Hamptons with its independent, laid-back, and free-spirited energy, and that’s exactly what we set out to capture with Hotel Corduroy,” said Eric Freitas Orford, managing director, New York. “Drawing inspiration from the town’s creative surf culture and strong sense of community, the property was designed as a place where guests can come together, settle in and feel at home.”

The hotel’s design embraces a sun-faded color palette, layered textures and subtle retro nods to 1960s coastal style, producing quietly elegant interiors and curated vintage accents. The lobby is conceived as a living room that encourages conversation and connection, while an on-site retail shop stocks clothing brands including Faherty.

“Every property we take on is an opportunity to honor what already exists while evolving it for today,” said Jason Brown, co-founder and CEO of Blue Flag Capital. “Expanding into Long Island felt like a natural next chapter for us. We couldn’t be more excited to continue our focus on destinations with a strong identity and long-standing demand, where we can thoughtfully reinvest and help restore a deeper sense of place for both guests and the surrounding community.”

Developed alongside in-house management firm Collared Martin Hospitality, Hotel Corduroy offers a range of guest amenities that amplify a relaxed coastal lifestyle. The Lawn is an outdoor gathering space with sofas and loungers for soaking up fresh sea air. Guests can borrow hotel bicycles to explore Montauk, take advantage of complimentary beach gear, and enjoy private access to a section of Sunset Beach.

With its combination of preserved local character, updated design, and community-minded programming, Hotel Corduroy aims to be both a restful retreat and an active hub for visitors seeking authentic Montauk experiences. The property’s small scale and thoughtful detailing emphasize comfort and connection, inviting guests to slow down, socialize and enjoy the natural surroundings.
