Born Free: Raising Independent, Confident Children

Actress Virginia McKenna, best known for her role in the Academy Award-winning film Born Free, turned her on-screen passion for wildlife into real-world action by founding the Born Free Foundation. To mark three decades of conservation work, Cheli & Peacock Safaris is offering a special one-time Born Free Safari in Kenya, featuring a rare opportunity to meet McKenna. All donations from bookings will support the foundation’s global efforts to protect wildlife.

The safari runs from Oct. 22–31 and highlights several meaningful conservation sites. Guests will visit Elsa’s Kopje, the location associated with Elsa the lioness from the film, where McKenna will share firsthand stories from her experiences working with lions. The itinerary also includes a stop at Joy’s Camp, where guest speakers will discuss wildlife reintroduction efforts in the Samburu region; a visit to the research center of elephant expert Cynthia Moss; and a farewell lunch with the Born Free team in Kenya.

Pricing starts at $6,345 per person based on double occupancy and does not include international airfare. The package covers accommodations, internal flights, park and concession fees, game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals and sundowners, membership to the Flying Doctors Society, laundry service, and airstrip transfers.

This curated itinerary offers both immersive wildlife encounters and behind-the-scenes insight into ongoing conservation projects, giving travelers a meaningful way to support and learn from organizations working to safeguard Africa’s wildlife.
