Baz Luhrmann-Designed Dining Car Debuts on Belmond British Pullman

This summer, British Pullman, A Belmond Train, England, introduces a striking new private dining and events carriage conceived and designed by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin. Named Celia, the carriage occupies an original 1932 Pullman carriage and provides an intimate, cinematic experience for up to 12 guests on one of Britain’s most storied trains.

The self-contained private carriage features a cocktail bar, lounge, dining and entertainment space, dedicated stewards, and the option to include a private chef who creates bespoke menus using the finest seasonal British produce.

The design of Celia draws on Luhrmann’s vivid imagination and the glamour of London’s 1930s West End theatre scene. The interior is appointed in rich velvets, floral marquetry, theatrical curtains and a deep, dramatic palette of reds, greens, yellows and purples to create a warm, immersive atmosphere.

“With the simple closing of a curtain, the car transforms into a performance space: a place where a father might speak at a beloved child’s birthday or engagement, or, when the occasion calls for a bit more fun, somewhere music can be spun. In that way, Celia also echoes the philosophy of a film set; a space designed with intention to adapt and heighten whatever the traveler’s unique story requires. It works beautifully as a creative retreat, or in a business setting, it becomes an intimate environment for discussion, a product launch, or a special announcement,” said Luhrmann.

Luhrmann describes Celia as a catalyst that brings people together and invites them to lose themselves in both the physical journey and the subtle, romantic magic of the space. Guests step away having experienced something singular and memorable.

Celia will depart from London Victoria Station on all British Pullman journeys. Its versatile layout allows it to transition seamlessly from a refined dining room to a performance venue or dance floor, making it ideal for celebrations, milestone moments, theatrical performances and elegant cocktail soirées.

With its blend of theatrical design, bespoke service and seasonal cuisine, Celia offers a distinctive setting for private events, intimate gatherings and creative retreats on board one of Britain’s most iconic trains.
