Auction Preview: Going Once — What to Expect at Live Auctions

Get ready to bid. Starting Nov. 22, Lufthansa passengers on routes operated with the Boeing 747-8 out of Frankfurt can submit bids to upgrade from economy to premium economy class.

Through Lufthansa’s myOffer program, travelers holding a valid economy ticket may place a confidential, individual offer for an upgrade into the airline’s new premium economy cabin. The bid option accompanies the roll-out of Lufthansa’s refreshed premium economy service.

How it works: Passengers who have an economy reservation can access My Bookings via the quick link on Lufthansa’s site and log in to check eligibility. If an upgrade offer is available, a notification will appear that links to the myOffer page, where the passenger can submit a bid. Bids can be modified or withdrawn up to 72 hours before the scheduled departure; after that point bids become final.

The selection process occurs roughly between 72 and 36 hours before departure. When evaluating bids, Lufthansa considers the bid amount in combination with other factors such as the number of premium economy seats remaining and the total quantity and value of competing bids. All passengers who submit a bid will be notified by email between 48 and 24 hours before departure about whether their offer was successful. If a bid is accepted, the credit card on file will be charged for the accepted amount and an updated e‑ticket will be issued. If a bid is not accepted, the passenger’s original economy booking remains unchanged and no extra charge will be applied. Certain restrictions and conditions apply.

This bidding option gives eligible travelers a chance to experience Lufthansa’s premium economy at a potentially lower cost than purchasing a higher fare class outright, while preserving the certainty of their original economy reservation if their bid is not accepted.

Passengers interested in participating should verify eligibility in their booking, review bid deadlines, and ensure their payment details are up to date to avoid delays in processing should their offer be accepted.
