American Airlines Expands Caribbean and Mexico Routes: New Flights Announced

American Airlines is expanding its winter schedule with new and increased service to several destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and the United States. The carrier will add flights to Huatulco (HUX) and Acapulco (ACA) in Mexico and expand operations through Miami International Airport, its primary connection hub for the region.

The winter schedule includes three new routes to Mexico, five additional Caribbean routes, and eight new domestic U.S. routes. These changes are designed to give travelers more options for both leisure and business travel during the holiday season.

Beginning Dec. 18, American will introduce daily service between Phoenix (PHX) and Chihuahua (CUU); the airline already serves Chihuahua from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). Starting Dec. 21, seasonal service will operate Tuesdays and Saturdays from DFW to the Pacific resort destinations of Huatulco (HUX) and Acapulco (ACA).

On Dec. 18 American will also begin flights from New York (JFK) to Georgetown (GEO), Guyana. That same date will see the addition of second daily DFW flights to San Jose (SJC) and Liberia (LIR) in Costa Rica. New Saturday service starting Dec. 21 will include flights from DFW and Chicago (ORD) to St. Thomas (STT) in the U.S. Virgin Islands, while ORD will also start seasonal service to St. Lucia (UVF) on Dec. 21. The airline announced additional seasonal Caribbean routes, including New York (LGA) to Bermuda (BDA) and Charlotte (CLT) to Grenada (GND).

“As we looked at our Latin America and Caribbean network, we saw some unique opportunities to grow, providing more service to the places our customers value most,” said Vasu Raja, vice president of network and schedule planning at American Airlines. “We know that customers who travel for business during the week are seeking Caribbean destinations on the weekends, and we’re looking forward to providing new opportunities for that this winter.”

These schedule additions reflect American Airlines’ effort to increase connectivity and seasonal leisure options across its network. Travelers planning winter vacation or seeking weekend getaways have more direct choices, while business travelers benefit from expanded connections through the airline’s hub system.
