Air Canada set a new record by carrying nearly one million passengers over a six-day holiday period, and also posted its highest single-day passenger total.
On June 29, Air Canada transported 166,850 customers, the largest single-day figure in the airline’s history. Between June 29 and July 4, more than 930,000 passengers flew with Air Canada.
“As Canadians celebrated our country’s 150th birthday, Air Canada was hard at work safely transporting record numbers of customers to their destinations,” said Calin Rovinescu, president and CEO of Air Canada. “These results show that we remain the carrier of choice for travelers in Canada and reinforce our standing as the Best Airline in North America, as recognized by the 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards.”
Rovinescu added that the record passenger volumes capped a strong second quarter. Higher revenue and lower-than-expected fuel costs helped drive EBITDAR that is projected to significantly exceed the current analyst consensus of roughly $475 million. He thanked customers for their loyalty and praised the airline’s 30,000 employees for their dedication in welcoming and safely transporting passengers.
