Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina Debuts West Coast’s Largest Event Space

Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina has announced a major expansion that will create one of the West Coast’s largest event destinations.

Situated near the San Diego Convention Center, the hotel already features extensive meeting facilities, including 47 meeting rooms and roughly 80,000 square feet of event space. To better serve business and event planners, the downtown property is expanding its footprint to offer about 240,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor venues.

Expected to be completed in summer 2016, the expansion introduces several distinctive meeting amenities. Two new stacked ballrooms—each 36,000 square feet and positioned to overlook San Diego Bay—will replace the existing ballrooms. Each ballroom is designed to accommodate up to 4,500 guests, enabling the hotel to host very large conferences, banquets and special events. In addition, the project includes the Marina Terrace, a 26,450-square-foot paved outdoor space with marina views that will support receptions, outdoor exhibits and other large gatherings.

The expansion also adds the Marina Walk, a landscaped promenade linking downtown to the waterfront. The walkway will provide scenic views of the marina and nearby parks while incorporating practical amenities such as bike racks, benches, public art and decorative paving to enhance the pedestrian experience.

With this development, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina aims to strengthen its position as a premier meeting and events hub in Southern California, offering expanded capacity and versatile indoor and outdoor spaces suited to conventions, corporate events and social functions.
