Groupon has launched a new loyalty program that lets customers earn airline miles or hotel points when they purchase Groupon deals. The program currently supports several popular loyalty programs, including American Airlines AAdvantage, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, Choice Privileges, IHG Rewards Club, JetBlue TrueBlue and La Quinta Returns.
To join, sign up online to receive a unique promo code that you enter with every Groupon purchase. Applying this code automatically credits miles or points to your chosen loyalty account for qualifying purchases.
Members who opt for airline miles receive a 1,000-mile bonus on their first purchase of $30 or more. After the welcome bonus, earnings continue at the following rates: five miles per dollar on local Groupon deals, four miles per dollar on Groupon getaways, and three miles per dollar on Groupon goods.
Members who elect to earn hotel reward points get a 2,000-point bonus on their first purchase of $30 or more. Ongoing earnings are awarded at 10 points per dollar on local Groupon purchases, eight points per dollar on Groupon getaways, and six points per dollar on Groupon goods.
“We’re excited to have more frequent interactions with our customers by providing them with even greater value when they shop through Groupon,” said Vinayak Hegde, senior vice president of global marketing at Groupon. “Whether it’s finding a new local experience to try, booking a trip with the family or getting an early start on your holiday shopping, we’re offering incredible savings and airline miles or hotel points from your favorite loyalty programs. It’s a win-win.”
Groupon says it plans to expand the program by adding more brands and rewards partners in the coming months, giving members additional ways to earn points and miles through everyday purchases.
