ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: The 21st annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards event was held at L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, which also served as my accommodation for a two-night stay. This marked my 12th trip to California for the awards, and although it was my first time at L’Ermitage, the visit felt like a familiar homecoming.
The hotel’s discreet entrance blends with the surrounding residences. A welcoming doorman greeted me as I entered the lobby, and the front desk attendant provided a brief orientation to the property while completing the check-in. I was on my way to my room quickly and efficiently.

GUEST QUARTERS: My deluxe classic suite on the second floor faced Burton Way. Because the room sat above the outdoor patio seating of the hotel’s Costa Covo Osteria, I left the balcony doors locked and the curtains closed for most of my stay. The suite included a king bed, desk, sitting area, a walk-through dressing room with a vanity, and a spacious bathroom. The décor favored soft neutrals—cream, beige and gray—which created a calm, refined ambiance.
The dressing area was particularly well appointed for a Beverly Hills hotel: an illuminated vanity mirror and a full-length lighted mirror with three adjustable panels made it easy to prepare for the day or an evening event. The closet and dressing area opened into the bathroom, which offered a separate bathtub and shower, plush robes, dual sinks and Diptyque bath amenities.
Thoughtful details made the room feel intuitive and comfortable. The L-shaped couch included a built-in table at the end near an outlet, ideal for keeping personal items while charging devices. A storage ottoman at the foot of the bed doubled as a convenient spot for putting on shoes. Throughout my stay I kept noticing small, useful features that enhanced the experience.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: My visit was brief, so I didn’t have time to explore every service L’Ermitage offers, but I did enjoy a few highlights. One evening I joined colleagues for drinks at Costa Covo Osteria before an off-site dinner. Though we chose wine, the cocktail menu looked tempting and well crafted.
On the first morning I ordered room service to catch up on work from the comfort of my suite before the event. I selected eggs with bacon, potatoes, toast, a side of avocado and a pot of coffee. The breakfast cart arrived with a small sprig of pine and holly—a festive, homey touch during a December stay. It was a relaxed way to begin a busy day.
The GT Tested Reader Survey awards took place on the hotel rooftop, which provided lovely views of Los Angeles and a fitting setting for the celebration. After the event, our group returned to Costa Covo Osteria to share plates and toast a successful awards evening.
