Virgin Australia is redefining the economy travel experience with the introduction of Economy X, a new offering designed to increase comfort and convenience both on the ground and in the air across its network.
As a first-of-its-kind product in Australia’s domestic market, Economy X upgrades the standard economy experience by providing extra legroom, designated overhead baggage storage, priority boarding and domestic priority screening. By the end of May, the first three rows of the economy cabin on the Boeing 737 fleet will be reconfigured to deliver these benefits, meaning nearly 20 percent of economy seats will offer additional legroom.
“We know that speed on the ground and space in the air are important to our guests, which is why we’re excited to launch Economy X,” said John Thomas, group executive, Virgin Australia Airlines. “Economy X will empower passengers to tailor their travel experience and will give them more choice when they fly. I’m confident that Economy X will be very well received by guests.”
On short-haul international flights, Economy X replaces the previous Economy Space+ product and includes all the core features—extra legroom, designated overhead storage, priority boarding and where available, priority check-in. For long-haul international services, Economy X also takes over from Economy Space+ and adds premium check-in, premium boarding, guaranteed first meal choice and a premium noise-cancelling headset, in addition to the extra legroom and dedicated overhead storage.
Velocity frequent-flyer Platinum members can access Economy X at no additional charge when the product is available at booking and before check-in on domestic and short-haul international flights. Eligible companions traveling on the same booking will also receive the same access.
Economy X becomes available on flights beginning May 21, offering travellers more choice and a more comfortable journey across Virgin Australia’s domestic and international network.
