It’s competition time — from Nov. 22–26 all eyes and appetites turn to Luxembourg for the Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup Expogast 2014. This international culinary event gathers teams from across Europe and Asia, including national squads from Luxembourg, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Croatia, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Cyprus, Austria, Switzerland and Lithuania. Alongside these national teams, regional and junior teams as well as individual chefs will compete across multiple categories such as Hot Cooking, Cold Platter, Pastry Art and Community Catering.

Held every four years, the 2014 edition is the 12th staging of the competition. The program features a broad range of culinary activities: live cooking demonstrations by acclaimed chefs, showcases of contemporary and molecular cuisine techniques, and elaborate food sculptures that highlight artistry and technical skill. Participants are judged on strict criteria including presentation, composition and preparation, ensuring a high standard across every category.

Renowned culinary professionals serve on the judging panel, bringing diverse expertise to the evaluation process. Members include Roberto Beltramini, Camille Schumacher, Carlo Sauber, Stefan Jung, Ulrich Frehde, Doris Vögeli and Aloyse Jacoby. Their assessments focus on taste, creativity, technical precision and the visual impact of each dish.

The main event venue accommodates around 900 guests, providing an intimate yet energetic atmosphere for competitions and demonstrations. Service is professionally handled by students from Luxembourg’s national hotel schools, offering them practical experience while contributing to the event’s polished presentation and hospitality.
