Arrival/Check-In: We expected traffic driving from Sonoma into San Francisco, but the trip was smooth over the Golden Gate Bridge until we encountered midday congestion navigating the city’s one-way streets. With GPS assistance we located the understated hotel entrance. A bellman greeted us, unloaded our bags efficiently and handed the car to valet service.
Inside, a stone-and-marble lobby in warm tones with soft lighting created an inviting first impression. The front desk sat to the right and the lobby bar and restaurant, Ame, was to the left. After registering, we asked the concierge for dinner recommendations. He suggested Salt House, an atmospheric spot within easy walking distance.
Guest Quarters: Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of our L-shaped corner room, bathing the space in natural light. Off-white walls and white linens with taupe throw pillows reinforced a minimalist yet comfortable aesthetic. A desk and two chairs occupied a window-lined alcove, which is convenient for business travelers thanks to desktop power outlets and reliable internet access. A wall-mounted flat-screen television faced the bed, though its placement made viewing from the alcove chairs awkward. The television briefly locked on a single channel, but a technician resolved the issue quickly.
The bathroom, stocked with Remède Spa amenities, offered a deep soaking tub, a separate shower, a single sink and a water closet. A small television and a wall-mounted makeup mirror added convenience.
Services/Amenities: A 2012 renovation refreshed the lobby and bar to evoke a living-room atmosphere. Ame, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, focuses on seasonal New American cuisine with an emphasis on seafood and includes a sashimi bar serving crudo, tartare and carpaccio. Vitrine, located on the fourth floor, serves breakfast and lunch. The on-site fitness center includes a 24-hour swimming pool, and the Remède Spa is widely regarded among San Francisco’s top hotel spas.
The Experience: Situated in the city’s business district across from the Moscone Center and within easy reach of Union Square, The St. Regis San Francisco caters to both business and leisure travelers, offering upscale service and well-appointed facilities.
