A recent Four Seasons and Ipsos study of travelers from the U.S., U.K., Russia and China highlights varied sleep habits and growing demand for personalization. In response, Four Seasons has introduced a customizable in-room bed that allows guests to adjust mattress firmness to their preference during their stay.
Created in partnership with Simmons, the mattress can be configured to three distinct levels of firmness within minutes. Its core uses gel touch foam technology designed to absorb excess heat, helping maintain an optimal body temperature for better sleep. Guests also have access to a selection of pillows and bedside amenities to further tailor their sleeping environment.
The commissioned study underscores travelers’ increasing desire for customized experiences. Key findings include:
- 92 percent of travelers report having a preferred bed firmness
- Half of respondents prefer a medium-firm mattress, 28 percent prefer firm, and 14 percent prefer soft
- Pre-sleep routines vary by region: Russian and Chinese travelers tend to favor a hot bath or shower, British travelers often read before bed, and Americans commonly watch television
- 72 percent of travelers prefer to sleep on the same side of the bed they use at home
These insights guided Four Seasons’ approach to in-room sleep solutions, focusing on rapid customization, temperature regulation and a range of pillow and accessory choices so guests can recreate their preferred sleep setup while traveling.
