Kimpton Expands With New Capitol Hotel Location

The Carlyle – Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C., will become a Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants property this month. Situated in the Glover Park neighborhood, just a few blocks northeast of Dupont Circle, the hotel is undergoing a comprehensive renovation of its public spaces, restaurant and guest rooms to reflect Kimpton’s boutique style and service standards. Once refurbishment is complete, the property will offer 198 guestrooms, including 56 units featuring full-service, modern kitchenettes.

The Carlyle collaborated with acclaimed artist Michele Oka Doner to incorporate contemporary artwork and custom handcrafted chandeliers that honor the hotel’s history while creating a fresh, modern aesthetic. The redesign also includes a membership-quality fitness facility, Washington’s Urban Athletic Club, and approximately 3,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. The hotel is scheduled to reopen as a Kimpton in May 2015.

In addition to the renovated accommodations and amenities, The Carlyle will introduce a new restaurant this summer from celebrated chef Michael Schlow. Named The Riggsby, the restaurant will serve American cuisine influenced by European traditions and will complement the hotel’s updated public areas.

“Washington has been a thriving market for Kimpton over the years, and it’s great to be able to add this new property to our portfolio to keep up with the incredible demand we continue to see here,” said Barry Pollard, senior vice president of hotel operations for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “Once renovations are complete and all the signature Kimpton amenities and programs are in place, The Carlyle – Dupont Circle will provide even more diversity to our offerings in the capital.”
