Holiday Tea at The Hay-Adams: Festive Afternoon Experience

Washington, D.C.’s historic Hay‑Adams hotel has announced the return of its beloved holiday tea service for the 2015 season. The all‑inclusive afternoon tea will be offered on four dates in December — the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th — from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pricing is $50 for adults and $40 for children 12 and under.

Guests will enjoy a curated selection of teas from the Mighty Leaf Tea Company, featuring handcrafted blends sourced from around the world. Selections include black, oolong, white, green and herbal varieties to suit a range of tastes.

Executive Chef Peter Schaffrath, Executive Sous Chef Jaime Montes de Oca and Pastry Chef Josh Short have created a seasonal teatime menu that balances savory and sweet. The service begins with classic tea sandwiches, such as smoked salmon with dill cream cheese and cucumber with shrimp salad. Freshly baked treats include cranberry scones and an assortment of Viennese and French confections, like lemon‑raspberry tarts and macarons.

Children are welcomed with a special menu that blends playful, kid‑friendly options and traditional tea offerings. Young guests can choose items such as peanut butter and marmalade sandwiches, fruit‑flavored teas, hot chocolate and other treats designed for smaller appetites.

The holiday tea is presented in the hotel’s elegant Lafayette Room, which overlooks Lafayette Park and offers views of the White House. The dining room will be decorated for the season, and a pianist will perform popular holiday favorites to enhance the festive atmosphere.

Reservations are required and can be made through the hotel’s website or by calling (202) 638‑6600.
