Originally opened in 2008 in northern Chile, Tierra Atacama (part of Tierra Hotels) has established itself as an upscale option in the town of San Pedro de Atacama thanks to its striking architecture, sweeping views of Licancabur volcano and the Andes peaks, and the hotel’s warm, attentive service. The property is undergoing a significant renovation and will reopen on April 1; bookings are available now.

From the original 32 rooms, Tierra Atacama will reopen with 28 accommodations, creating a more exclusive and elegant atmosphere while retaining the relaxed character common to Tierra properties.
The main central area, terraces and pool will remain largely as they are, as will the 14 Poniente rooms and two apartments. The front line of Oriente rooms will be reconfigured into four suites and eight renovated Oriente rooms, each with larger, open terraces to maximize views of Licancabur.

The 14 Poniente rooms, oriented toward the Salt Mountain Range, will receive extended terraces and redesigned entrances to enhance privacy and frame views of the salt mountains more effectively.
Oriente rooms will be transformed into tranquil, luxurious spaces featuring wood-clad walls, refreshed private bathrooms, and expansive terraces designed to take full advantage of the volcano vistas.
Four deluxe suites will offer contemporary bathrooms with freestanding bathtubs, dedicated dressing rooms, and comfortable living areas with desks. Floor-to-ceiling windows will open onto private terraces, and each suite will include its own plunge pool and a cozy fireplace for cool desert nights.

The two apartments, each with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, will accommodate up to six guests. They will feature sophisticated, relaxed interiors, private terraces and a plunge pool.
Meanwhile, Tierra Patagonia in southern Chile’s Patagonia region, roughly 2,600 miles south of Tierra Atacama, is opening its season with newly refurbished suites available in three distinct color palettes and introducing a new bar space designed to showcase impressive views.
