After the successful inaugural season, Light City Baltimore will return to brighten Maryland’s bustling seaport city. From March 31 to April 8, the festival will present a range of light art installations and interactive events, accompanied by concerts and live performances. Baltimore’s long history with public lighting makes it a fitting host: in 1861 the city became the first in the United States to install hydrogen gas street lamps.
This year’s program opens with the Light City Lantern Parade and features the BGE Light Art Walk, a 1.2-mile trail along Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Along the trail, illuminated sculptures, large-scale projections and interactive technologies engage visitors, while musical acts, food vendors and a family-friendly children’s area provide entertainment after dark. Daytime programming includes Labs@LightCity, where thought leaders and innovators convene to explore creative approaches to social change. The festival also highlights Neighborhood Lights, an immersive artist-in-residence initiative that showcases projects across eight Baltimore neighborhoods.
