JetBlue Unveils New Sustainability Campaign to Cut Emissions

Each April, JetBlue marks Earth Month with a series of environmental initiatives under its GreenUp campaign. This year’s program features a wide range of events, volunteer opportunities, community cleanups and a contest that awards round-trip tickets for two.

For the current GreenUp activities, JetBlue invited crewmembers to nominate their preferred environmental charities and causes to receive grant funding. Customers were also encouraged to vote among a group of finalists. Each finalist will receive $15,000 to support an environmental project, and winners were chosen across several categories, including wildlife, urban environment, climate change and conservation. People who participated in the voting were entered for a chance to win airline tickets.

“While our environmental efforts continue year-round, Earth Month is a valuable reminder that preserving natural resources requires a community effort,” said Icema Gibbs, JetBlue’s director of corporate social responsibility. Gibbs noted that environmental and social responsibility are central to the airline’s long-term strategy and explained that the company is investing in new technologies and operational changes to reduce its CO2 footprint. She also encouraged individuals to take simple actions in their daily lives—such as offsetting emissions from air travel—to help protect the planet.
