Iberia Launches New Premium Economy Class on Select Routes

Iberia introduced a premium-economy cabin on select routes beginning May 1. The new offering provides travelers a comfortable step up from standard economy on flights between Madrid (MAD) and Chicago (ORD), New York (JFK), and Bogotá (BOG). Service to Mexico will follow in June, while Miami (MIA) and Boston (BOS) routes will add the cabin in August and September, respectively.

The premium-economy seats deliver noticeably more space and comfort: 20% greater pitch between rows, wider seats, and 40% more recline than regular economy. Each seat includes an adjustable headrest and footrest, and entertainment screens increase to 12 inches (vs. nine inches in economy), enhancing in-flight enjoyment on long sectors.

Travelers booking premium economy also receive priority check-in and boarding, and are allowed two pieces of luggage, improving the airport experience and reducing stress before departure.

Additional amenities are designed to create a more relaxed and refined journey. Passengers are offered noise-canceling headphones, power and connectivity ports for personal devices, a welcome drink, table linen during meal service, and an amenity kit. A curated gourmet menu is also available, reflecting the cabin’s more premium positioning.

To roll out the new product, Iberia will retrofit 21 of its existing long-haul aircraft — Airbus A340-600s and A330-300s — over the next two years. In addition, 16 new A350 aircraft scheduled for delivery from 2018 will come factory-fitted with the premium-economy cabin.

This upgrade gives travelers seeking enhanced comfort and service a middle option between economy and business, combining additional legroom and thoughtful onboard touches with a more accessible price point than business class.
