Carnival Corporation, a leader in ocean travel, has long prioritized environmental responsibility. To make its sustainability work more transparent, the company launched a dedicated website showcasing the green initiatives of each of its 10 brands. The site presents progress reports on sustainability goals, explains measures to monitor and respond to health concerns such as the Zika virus, and outlines efforts to protect wildlife and support coastal communities.
In its 2016 sustainability report, Carnival reported that it was ahead of the targets set in 2015 to reduce environmental impact. Those goals included a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and introducing liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion on cruise ships — a significant step toward using one of the cleanest available fossil fuels.
These investments in cleaner energy and other environmental measures have earned Carnival recognition. In 2016 the company received the Port of Seattle Green Gateway Award in acknowledgment of its commitment to environmental excellence and continuous improvement across its fleet and operations.
