China’s Mount Hua Shan offers multiple high-adrenaline attractions. The Heavenly Stairs—a steep stone stairway set at an almost vertical angle—lead toward the Hua Shan plank path. On the plank path, a few narrow wooden boards and anchored chains separate hikers from the open air; some sections require careful climbing using hand- and footholds carved into the rock. The final reward includes a teahouse near the summit, reputed by many visitors to serve exceptional tea and to be a fitting finish to an intense ascent.
