Wyndham Hotels Group is making its debut in Africa’s upscale hospitality market with the upcoming Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa in Kenya. Scheduled to open in 2017, the resort will be situated near Amboseli National Park and about 100 miles from Nairobi, offering guests convenient access to one of Kenya’s most famous wildlife destinations while providing upscale resort amenities.
The Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa will be a sizeable development, featuring 290 well-appointed rooms designed to meet the needs of leisure and business travelers alike. Guests will have access to a full-service spa and an 18-hole championship golf course, plus Kenya’s first executive nine-hole course aimed at players who want a shorter, time-efficient round. These facilities are intended to appeal to both golf enthusiasts and visitors seeking relaxation and recreation in a high-quality setting.
In addition to leisure amenities, the resort will include a conference center built to international standards with capacity for 300 delegates. The developers envision the property as a multi-use destination: alongside the hotel and leisure facilities, the 400-acre site will offer serviced plots for private cottages, allowing for the development of exclusive, personalized accommodation options within the resort grounds. This mix of facilities is designed to attract both conferences and social events as well as extended-stay and private-residence guests.
Dr. Anthony Monyo, chairman of Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa, explained that the project was conceived to create “a new class of luxury resort” that combines world-class golf and spa offerings with substantial conference capacity and private-plot development. According to Dr. Monyo, Wyndham’s upscale positioning and extensive global presence made the brand an ideal partner to introduce this level of hospitality to the African market.
The opening of Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa marks the first upscale Wyndham property in Africa and expands the company’s footprint in the wider Middle East and Africa region. The resort joins a pipeline of Wyndham developments across the region, including projects such as Wyndham Grand Manama in Bahrain and the large-scale Wyndham Dubai Marina, which have been planned to open in the same timeframe. Together, these properties reflect Wyndham’s broader strategy to grow its portfolio in key international markets and to meet demand for upscale accommodations, business facilities, and leisure experiences.
Positioned near Amboseli National Park, the resort will be able to combine wildlife viewing and safari experiences with luxury amenities, making it attractive to international tourists seeking both adventure and comfort. Its proximity to Nairobi also makes it accessible for domestic and regional travelers, as well as for business events that draw attendees from the capital and beyond. The inclusion of a sizable conference center further supports the resort’s role as a venue for corporate meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions, while the private cottage plots offer an option for members or owners who prefer a more secluded, home-like environment.
By introducing an upscale resort with golf, spa, conference facilities, and private-plot development to the Amboseli area, Wyndham aims to set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in Kenya. The property’s blend of recreational amenities and event spaces seeks to appeal to a wide range of travelers—from golf players and spa guests to conference delegates and private-residence buyers—positioning the resort as a versatile destination for both leisure and business stays.
