Vietnam Airlines and Jet Airways Announce Codeshare Partnership

Vietnam Airlines and Jet Airways have signed a codeshare agreement designed to improve connectivity and provide smoother travel options across both carriers’ networks. This partnership allows passengers greater access to coordinated schedules, simplified ticketing, and better itinerary choices when traveling between Southeast Asia and India.

Under the terms of the agreement, Jet Airways will add its marketing code to Vietnam Airlines services operating from Bangkok (BKK) and Singapore (SIN) to the Vietnamese gateways of Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Hanoi (HAN). Conversely, Vietnam Airlines will place its marketing code on selected Jet Airways flights from Bangkok to Mumbai (BOM) and Delhi (DEL), as well as on Jet Airways services from Singapore to Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai (MAA).

The arrangement is intended to smooth connections between both carriers’ schedules, enabling customers to book single-ticket itineraries and enjoy coordinated ground handling and transfer processes. Passengers can expect streamlined booking experiences through either airline’s reservation channels, with combined flight options that reduce transit complexity and improve overall journey planning.

In practice, this codeshare offers several benefits for travelers. First, it increases the number of available routes between key business and leisure cities in India and Vietnam via reliable hub points such as Bangkok and Singapore. Second, it provides more flexible departure times and connection choices, giving flyers the ability to select itineraries that fit their schedules rather than being constrained to each airline’s standalone network. Third, single-ticket itineraries typically mean easier baggage transfer and through-checking, reducing the hassle of re-checking luggage during connections.

Airline partnerships like this also support tourism and business travel by creating more efficient linkages between markets. Vietnam and India have been strengthening economic and cultural ties, and expanded flight options can help facilitate increased trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges. For frequent flyers and corporate travelers, additional codeshare services can translate into time savings and improved reliability when arranging multi-leg journeys across the region.

Gaurang Shetty, senior vice president of commercial operations at Jet Airways, emphasized the expected uplift in travel demand resulting from the new arrangement. He noted that the seamless connections enabled by the codeshare are likely to attract both business and leisure travelers between India and Vietnam, as well as those connecting through Bangkok and Singapore to other regional destinations.

From an operational standpoint, passengers should check their reservation confirmations to see which carrier’s code appears on each flight segment. Even when a flight is marketed by one airline, the operating carrier may be the partner airline, and travel conditions—including check-in procedures, seat assignments and frequent flyer accrual—will follow the operating carrier’s policies. Travelers are advised to review relevant terms at the time of booking to ensure clarity about baggage allowances, transfer rules and any visa or transit requirements that may apply.

Overall, the codeshare agreement between Vietnam Airlines and Jet Airways strengthens connectivity across South and Southeast Asia and offers customers a more convenient way to plan travel between major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. By leveraging each other’s networks through code-sharing, both airlines enhance route options and improve the travel experience for passengers seeking efficient, single-ticket itineraries across the combined network.
